MPHinc. HERS Testing and Verification
HERS Verification Title 24, part 6

What is it: HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System. This process is a field verification and diagnostic testing service developed to
show compliance with the “California Building Energy Standards”.

Why it's important: A study conducted by National Comfort Institute shows that the average HVAC system is only performing at 58% efficiency. Don’t get lumped in with the national average. Prove the high quality and performance of your work with diagnostic testing.

Cooling Coil Airflow Testing -

Costa Mesa - Orange County

Title 24 has set a minimum airflow requirement that needs to be HERS Verified. Using the most
sophisticated and accurate equipment we can measure the quantity of air going through your
HVAC system.

HERS Cooling Coil Airflow Testing

For new HVAC systems the requirements are 350 cubic ft/min per ton of AC:

Example – 350 CFM X 5 (ton AC) = 1750 CFM minimum

Zoned System Airflow - RA3.3.3.4.4

“Zoned air distribution systems shall meet both the airflow (cfm/ton) and fan efficacy (Watt/cfm) criteria in every zonal control mode, except that multi-speed compressor systems or variable speed compressor systems shall only be required to verify air flow (cfm/ton) and fan efficacy (Watt/cfm) for system operation in cooling mode at maximum compressor capacity and maximum system fan speed and with all zones calling for air conditioning.”
