What is it: HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System. This process is a field verification and diagnostic testing service developed to
show compliance with the “California Building Energy Standards”.
Why it's important: A study conducted by National Comfort Institute shows that the average HVAC system is only performing at 58% efficiency. Don’t get lumped in with the national average. Prove the high quality and performance of your work with diagnostic testing.
This verification requires that the return (inlet) side of the ductwork be sized using the California Energy Commission tables 150.0-C “OR” 150.0-D. This option is only available for “New” duct systems without zone controls.

This is still a HERS Verification but serves as a trade-off to the airflow and blower watts verification. Instead of measuring, the HERS Rater will verify that the return side of the duct work meets the requirements of tables 150.0-C “OR” 150.0-D.
