What is it: HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System. This process is a field verification and diagnostic testing service developed to
show compliance with the “California Building Energy Standards”.
Why it's important: A study conducted by National Comfort Institute shows that the average HVAC system is only performing at 58% efficiency. Don’t get lumped in with the national average. Prove the high quality and performance of your work with diagnostic testing.
In some new homes a HERS Verified duct location credit can be used to help meet the energy budget and comply with Title 24 calculations. Whether the ducts are located in a hot attic, crawl space, on the roof exposed to the direct sun or within the thermal boundary of the building can have a great effect on the efficiency of the duct system.
