MPHinc. HERS Testing and Verification
HERS Verification Title 24, part 6

What is it: HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System. This process is a field verification and diagnostic testing service developed to
show compliance with the “California Building Energy Standards”.

Why it's important: A study conducted by National Comfort Institute shows that the average HVAC system is only performing at 58% efficiency. Don’t get lumped in with the national average. Prove the high quality and performance of your work with diagnostic testing.

Refrigerant Charge Testing part of HERS Verification determines efficiency within the quantity of refrigerant installed in an air conditioner. This HERS Test verifies that all of the refrigerant temperatures and pressures are within manufacturers specifications.

Refrigerant Charge Testing

For units with fixed refrigerant metering (cap tube / piston) we will use the superheat charge verification method.

Refrigerant Charge Testing for units with a TXV or EXV we will use the subcooling charge verification method. We will also check the superheat to ensure that the expansion valve is functioning correctly - again, all within the HERS verification Title 24 - Refrigerant Charge Test.
