MPHinc. HERS Testing and Verification
HERS Verification Title 24, part 6

What is it: HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System. This process is a field verification and diagnostic testing service developed to
show compliance with the “California Building Energy Standards”.

Why it's important: A study conducted by National Comfort Institute shows that the average HVAC system is only performing at 58% efficiency. Don’t get lumped in with the national average. Prove the high quality and performance of your work with diagnostic testing.

As a required test in residential new construction or remodels that are extensive enough to require energy modeling (CF1R). There is a required minimum continuous airflow that must be measured and certified by a HERS Rater to prove compliance. The required quantity of ventilation air varies with the size of the building.

Ventilation/Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)

In most cases for the Indoor Air Quality Test the contractor uses the bath or laundry area exhaust fan to satisfy this ventilation requirement. The fan must not only exhaust the required volume of air, but be able to run continuously to fulfill the Indoor Air Quality Test.
